(Second Milers also read – John 7 – 8; Psalms 31 – 35; Proverbs 7)

Read the “0807 Evening and Morning” devotion for today, by the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:28-31)

Good morning. Those of you who know me, know how out-of-shape I am, although round is a shape. Every Sunday morning I walk 4 miles on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, from the Tropicana to the Hard Rock Cafe’. We hand out breakfast sandwiches from Wawa, water, coffee, and goody bags. I am always amazed that I can walk that far. But God gave me this to do, so I wait on Him to renew my strength…

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

I know that He is the reason I can walk that 4 miles. He gives us 4 other reasons in His Word that we should wait on Him…

1) Wait on the LORD because He supplies our needs.

“The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.” (Psalm 145:15)

2) Wait on the LORD because He is our defence.

“Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.” (Psalm 59:9)

3) Wait on the LORD because He shows us His mercy.

“Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.” (Psalm 123:2)

4) Wait on the LORD because He is God Almighty: the Creator

“Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.” (Jeremiah 14:22)

God has been so good to us. Wait on the the Lord and you will see too.

Peace.
