Good morning. Psalm 100 says:

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

God’s truth endureth to all generations. God’s truth. We found God’s truth in North Carolina! Imagine that. Camille and I were going to a campground in what amounted to be the middle of nowhere. When we were about ten miles out, we started looking for churches along the road. We saw about 4 or 5 Baptist churches along the way. It was not until we were about 1/2 mile from our destination that we saw the sign out in front of Derby Baptist Church. There in the middle of the sign, in large letters, easy to read as you cruise by, was what caught my eye. The sign read: K J Bible. That was enough to let any Fundamental, Independent, King James Bible believing Baptist know that they found the right church.

Pastor Ben Garrison, a veteran missionary to Alaska, has been at the pulpit there for about a year. It was great to hear God’s Word, God’s Truth, preached Sunday morning, Sunday and Wednesday nights. The body of Christ there has about 25 members, and they support around six missionaries.

On Sunday night, we heard the testimony of many in the congregation. They freely praised the Lord, and gave their testimonies how the Lord had saved them. One man grew up in a Pentecostal church like I did. Another, a woman, recalled how only a short distance away, she was saved. That was 58 years ago! Another woman had lost a daughter in a car accident. It always amazes me when I find that God has put me in a place I need to be. Derby Baptist Church will be my fondest memory of this trip to North Carolina. It was a home away from home for me. By Wednesday I was homesick for Jersey Shore Baptist Church, but I can’t wait to get back to Derby. Please pray for this oasis in the wilderness.

Pastor Phil Erickson has been the pastor of Jersey Shore Baptist Church since January of 2002. Having grown up in Ocean County, Pastor Phil has always had a burden for the south Jersey area. After graduating from Bible College in Longview, Texas, he and his family moved to Galloway Township with the vision of digging in and serving the Lord and the people of Atlantic County. Pastor Phil and Cindy Erickson have been married since 1985. They have four children and ten grandchildren. Their oldest son, Phil Jr. and his wife Katelyn are serving the Lord in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. Their oldest daughter, Melissa, is married to Wesley Clayton who is in the Air Force and is currently stationed in New Mexico. Samantha, their third child, is married to Justin Mears and they are both serving the Lord at the church in Galloway. Hannah, the youngest, is married to Lucas McCollum, and they are also serving here in Galloway. In preparation for ministry, the Lord led him through a variety of educational experiences that have equipped him to serve the Lord and His people. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgian Court University, a Bachelor of Biblical Studies in Pastoral Theology from Texas Independent Baptist Seminary (formerly Texas Baptist College), a Master of Religious Education in Bible from West Coast Baptist College, and a Master of Biblical Studies from The Crown College. More recently, he completed a Graduate Certificate in Biblical Counseling and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Veritas Baptist College. He is thankful for these opportunities to study God’s Word more deeply, and counts it a privilege to use whatever knowledge the Lord has given him for the building up of His church. In addition to pastoring, the Lord has given Phil the wonderful privilege of teaching as an adjunct professor at Vision Baptist College in Berlin, NJ and Veritas Baptist College.

I know exactly what you mean about a home away from home. We have found several really wonderful churches in our travels. We usually use a website for independent Baptist churches then look to see if they say they use the King James Bible. While in Alaska a few years ago we went to Pilgrim Baptist Church in Wasilla. It was Easter morning and I felt as thought I was home. They sang scripture songs, good preaching from Gods word and were so friendly. We enjoyed a wonderful pot luck breakfast with them and a wonderful time of fellowship before heading to our next destination. Glad you and Camille found your oasis. Also glad you are back at Jersey Shore Baptist.
