Good morning. In our Bible reading today we see God’s hand moving mightily to free His people, Israel, from their bondage in Egypt. God is about to send a “very grievous hail” upon the land of Egypt. The only safe haven that would be found is inside your house, and also the land of Goshen where Israel dwelt. No hail fell in Goshen; God was protecting His people. Safety for the Egyptians could also be gotten also – through the Word of God.

“He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.” – Exodus 9:20-21.

Those who obeyed God’s Word brought in their servants and animals into houses. Those who did not obey God’s Word left them in the field. And God’s Word tells us that those who were left in the field died from the hail. Belief or un-belief? How do you regard the Word of God? Do you believe it, or not? It cracks me up when I hear stories like the Southern Baptist Convention voting before their meetings as to whether or not the King James Bible is still the Word of God. Why would it change? Then there is that new argument as to whether the King James Bible is inspired. It’s agreed by both sides that the Originals are inspired. I have no problem with that. If I want to see what the Originals said, then I can skip over the italicized words in my King James Bible. As for the italicized words, those who translated the Scriptures into the King James Bible were all men of God. I’m sure God had His hand on them, controlling how they translated His Word. Remember when Moses smote the rock for water instead of just speaking to the rock? That act destroyed Moses’ chance of entering the promised land, and ruined God’s picture of just asking Him to supply our needs.

Phil Erickson

Pastor Phil Erickson has been the pastor of Jersey Shore Baptist Church since January of 2002. Having grown up in Ocean County, Pastor Phil has always had a burden for the south Jersey area. After graduating from Bible College in Longview, Texas, he and his family moved to Galloway Township with the vision of digging in and serving the Lord and the people of Atlantic County. Pastor Phil and Cindy Erickson have been married since 1985. They have four children and ten grandchildren. Their oldest son, Phil Jr. and his wife Katelyn are serving the Lord in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. Their oldest daughter, Melissa, is married to Wesley Clayton who is in the Air Force and is currently stationed in New Mexico. Samantha, their third child, is married to Justin Mears and they are both serving the Lord at the church in Galloway. Hannah, the youngest, is married to Lucas McCollum, and they are also serving here in Galloway. In preparation for ministry, the Lord led him through a variety of educational experiences that have equipped him to serve the Lord and His people. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgian Court University, a Bachelor of Biblical Studies in Pastoral Theology from Texas Independent Baptist Seminary (formerly Texas Baptist College), a Master of Religious Education in Bible from West Coast Baptist College, and a Master of Biblical Studies from The Crown College. More recently, he completed a Graduate Certificate in Biblical Counseling and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Veritas Baptist College. He is thankful for these opportunities to study God’s Word more deeply, and counts it a privilege to use whatever knowledge the Lord has given him for the building up of His church. In addition to pastoring, the Lord has given Phil the wonderful privilege of teaching as an adjunct professor at Vision Baptist College in Berlin, NJ and Veritas Baptist College.
