(Second Milers also read – Luke 17 – 18; Psalms 146 – 150; Proverbs 31)

Read the “0731 Evening and Morning” devotion for today, by the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 5:20-24)

Good morning. It is a shame what America is coming to. This was the week of the Northeast Vision Summit at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Berlin, NJ. I was there for Tuesday night and Thursday night. Wednesday I was at my home church: Jersey Shore Baptist, but I did get to see David Gibbs preach on-line. One of the items he informed us of was that if you share the Gospel with a child, it is considered child abuse. Woe! And telling a child that he can be a different gender than the way God made him or her is not? Is not telling them about Jesus, and sending them to Hell forever, not a hate crime? And teaching them that there is no God is not?

“And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:3-6)

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.

Woe #1 – They call evil good and good evil.

Woe #2 – They are wise in their own eyes.

Our wonderful Socialist leaders know that we the people cannot govern ourselves: they must do everything for us. They make the decisions for us, and give us free cell phones. They do not consult with God, or God’s people. Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes…

“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.” (1Corinthians 3:19-23)

Woe #3 – They take away the righteousness of the righteous.

Who are they? They are them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink. If you have friends that drink and drug, it can be a stumbling block for you. You may find yourself drinking and drugging also.

“Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.” (Proverbs 23:29-35)

What will people think when they see you stagger down the street? Will they see a drunkard, or will they see Jesus. They can take away my righteousness, because my righteousness is as filthy rags: Jesus gave me His righteousness when I got saved. His pure, clean, perfect righteousness comes with His perfect salvation. Jesus is coming back soon. If you are not saved, if you are not 100% sure you’re going to Heaven when you die, you need to take care of it. You need to have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. You see…

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.” (Romans 3:10-11)

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23)

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…” (Romans 5:12)

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John6:37-40)

Come to Jesus before it’s too late and avoid the woes.

Peace.
