“And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.” – (2 Chronicles 26:5)

“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” – (Psalm 1:2-3)

There is not much that I can add to what was written in 2 Chronicles 26:5 – “as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper”. Inside that statement lies the only key to real success in life – seeking God. As long as you and I are truly seeking God and His will for our lives, God will also make our lives to prosper.

In this chapter we see this principle in action in the life of King Uzziah. He was a great king that was mightily used of the Lord as long as he was seeking God. He experienced many military victories, and also caused Judah to prosper economically and scientifically. As long as Uzziah was in submission to the will of God, he and the kingdom prospered greatly. Unfortunately, he got himself into trouble:

“But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.” – (2 Chronicles 26:16)

Uzziah overstepped his bounds when he went into the temple to offer incense. He felt like he could do whatever he wanted, but God wasn’t pleased. The Lord gave King Uzziah leprosy, and he lived the rest of his life separated from the people in a “several (separated) house”.

So the bottom line is that when we are in submission to the Lord, He will bless what we do; but when we get to the place where we no longer need the Lord, God’s hand of prosperity will cease.

Phil Erickson

Pastor Phil Erickson has been the pastor of Jersey Shore Baptist Church since January of 2002. Having grown up in Ocean County, Pastor Phil has always had a burden for the south Jersey area. After graduating from Bible College in Longview, Texas, he and his family moved to Galloway Township with the vision of digging in and serving the Lord and the people of Atlantic County. Pastor Phil and Cindy Erickson have been married since 1985. They have four children and ten grandchildren. Their oldest son, Phil Jr. and his wife Katelyn are serving the Lord in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. Their oldest daughter, Melissa, is married to Wesley Clayton who is in the Air Force and is currently stationed in New Mexico. Samantha, their third child, is married to Justin Mears and they are both serving the Lord at the church in Galloway. Hannah, the youngest, is married to Lucas McCollum, and they are also serving here in Galloway. In preparation for ministry, the Lord led him through a variety of educational experiences that have equipped him to serve the Lord and His people. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Georgian Court University, a Bachelor of Biblical Studies in Pastoral Theology from Texas Independent Baptist Seminary (formerly Texas Baptist College), a Master of Religious Education in Bible from West Coast Baptist College, and a Master of Biblical Studies from The Crown College. More recently, he completed a Graduate Certificate in Biblical Counseling and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Veritas Baptist College. He is thankful for these opportunities to study God’s Word more deeply, and counts it a privilege to use whatever knowledge the Lord has given him for the building up of His church. In addition to pastoring, the Lord has given Phil the wonderful privilege of teaching as an adjunct professor at Vision Baptist College in Berlin, NJ and Veritas Baptist College.

To have understanding of the visions of God. Means to have the gift and divine wisdom to interprete God's law or word, prophetic visions, dreams of others, thoughts of others & prophecies of others religiously, politically, economically & common life. Like Daniel and Joseph
