Read the “0811 Evening and Morning” devotion for today, by the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?” (Isaiah 53:1)

And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13:54-58)

Good morning. Who has believed our report? The saved: those who have been born again: those who are going to heaven. Who has not believed our report? Those who refuse God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, and are headed for the lake of fire originally prepared for the devil and his angels. They did not believe God. When Jesus came into His own country, He did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Predestination is taught in many churches. They say your predestined to either go to heaven or go to hell. Our pastor met a person once who said that he (the person) was predestined to go to hell. If he doesn’t receive Jesus, he will. He seems to think that God predestined him to go to hell. This is not what the Bible teaches. First of all…

1) There Is God’s Will.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2Peter 3:9)

If he doesn’t repent (change his mind about being destined for hell) and receive Jesus as his Saviour, He will be lost. And it is his own fault, not God’s. Secondly…

2) The Omniscience Of God.

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30)

Those who believe that God has destined them for hell appear to skip over the first five words of this verse: for whom He did foreknow. God knows everything: He is all-knowing. He sees the beginning and the end. And He knows who will receive Jesus as their Saviour and who will not. What does God’s Word say about getting saved?

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.” (Acts 16:25-33)

Here was a jailer who would have to take the place of any prisoner who escaped his custody. He didn’t want to be imprisoned, he was going to kill himself. Paul told him not to, and the jailer came into where Paul and Silas were and asked them what he needed to do to be saved. Their reply: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. And he gave the jailer, and all that were in his house, the Gospel. They believed and were baptized, he and all of his. Sounds like easy believe-ism. What about Romans?

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:8-13)

Also sounds like easy believe-ism. Some say you have to turn from your sins, or be really, really, sorry for them. How are you going to turn from your sins without Jesus?

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John15:5)

Ephesians chapter 2 tells us…

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Twice in Ezekiel chapter 18, God warns that the soul that sinneth shall die. If you could turn from your sin, why did Jesus have to die on the cross? Can you answer that, if you think you’re predestined to go to hell? Thirdly…

3) The Love Of God.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:14)

If you think you’re predestined for hell, you are. Because you have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Do you think you are predestined for heaven? Think about this: are you trusting in your predestination or are you trusting in Jesus? He that believeth on Him is not condemned. Do you have Jesus?

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1John5:12)

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” (Romans 5:8-11)

Yes, God knows who will and who will not receive Jesus as their Saviour. Receive Jesus as your Saviour before it’s to late. Once you have Him as your Saviour, the Holy Spirit will seal you and get you safely to heaven. And here’s a bonus…

4) The Omnipotent God Is Capable Of Holding On To You And Keeping You.

Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.” (John 10:25-30)

And also…

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John6:35-40)

God has given His Word to us in the Bible. God’s Word says that…

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (1John 5:13)

I hope this helps those dealing with being predestined for hell. You can be predestined for heaven by receiving Jesus as your Saviour.

Peace.
