Read the “0721 Evening and Morning” devotion for today, by the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” (Proverbs 20:1)

Good morning. Before I get into this one, I want to be clear about something: I have been drug and alcohol free since 1983. That’s 35 years, and I don’t miss it. My first drink was a 7&7, the last was a 151&Coke. My first drug was a couple of yellow jackets to make the drive down to Florida. My last was a bad trip on blotter acid around ’81 or ’82. I never liked beer and I don’t like needles. Today, to ease the pain of living in this world, you have alcohol, cigars and cigarettes, Marijuana, and whatever is available on the street. Or you can choose Jesus. Breaking up with an old girlfriend threw me into a state of depression. It left me vulnerable to the devil’s attack. And there is no peace to be found in drinking and drugging. They only make you stupid, so you do stupid things. And some never return to normal. They go off to meet their Maker, and many are not ready. According to Wikipedia, there have been 107 rock stars who died from alcohol and/or drugs from 1963 through 2017. Makes me wonder if my name is on (or will be on) a list somewhere. The only list that counts is the one that makes up the Lambs Book of Life. Jesus is a better way to face the problems that life throws at you.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” (John 14:1-9)

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Don’t let your name show up on the wrong list. Twice in Ezekiel chapter 18, God tells us that the soul that sinneth, it shall die. But whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. You can have peace.

Peace!
