Listen to this morning’s Scripture song – Isaiah 40:31

Read the “0701 Evening and Morning” devotion for today, by the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon

“Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.  I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:  Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.  We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.”  Psalm 78:1-4

In a few days we will be celebrating our country’s independence.  The country which was founded on the word of God.  Its Constitution was written with the Bible in mind.  We stood for what was right.  Her laws were also written to protect the freedom to worship the God of Heaven.  Public school’s used the Bible to teach children right from wrong and to read.

In Psalm 78, the writer was concerned about the next generation knowing about what God has done for His people.  They prayed for four- hundred years to be free from Egypt.  God protected them when Pharaoh chased after them by parting the Red Sea.  God also destroyed the Egyptians by drowning them in the sea.  He gave them food and water in the wilderness.  God was there guiding them by a pillar of fire at night and a cloud covering by day.  What a wonderful God we serve.  All these things were taught to the children.

So what happened to our generation?  We’ve taken the Bible and prayer out of schools and other public places.  Our children are learning to read by books like “I Have Two Mommies”.  We’re no longer standing for what is right.  Many church members have one foot in the world and one in the church.  Some just quit.  People no longer want to hear the name Jesus unless it’s used as a curse word.  And yet our Lord and Saviour still is with us and loves us.  But what will our children and grandchildren praise the Lord about?

America, it’s time to take a stand.  Let’s grab our Bibles and gospel tracks and get our nation back.  Let’s make ‘the old stories’ so the next generation will have something to praise the Lord about.

Thank You

1 John 5:13
