(Second Milers Read – 1 Timothy 4 – 6; Psalms 66 – 70; Proverbs 14)

Read the “0614 Evening and Morning” devotion for today, by the late Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Read previous posts from this passage – “That Which I See Not“ and “Multiplying Words

“He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.” (Job 33:26)

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20)

“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2Corinthians 5:18-21)

Good morning. How are your works going? Are they good or are they bad? Are they drudgery or a labor of love? Why do I ask? Because, by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified (Galatians 2:16): because the good we do, our own righteousnesses, are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Unless our righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, we cannot enter Heaven. So what can we do? God provided a way: the Way: The Lord Jesus Christ…

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2Corinthians 5:21)

How do we get God’s righteousness? It is the free gift for us to ask God for: Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved .”

We will have righteousness that is greater than that of the Pharisees because it is the righteousness of God…

“He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.” (Job 33:26)

Not only did Jesus give us His righteousness while bearing our sins on the cross, but He made us this promise…

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:37-40)

Peace. (Psalm 4)
